Purchased for only $10,000, Yankee Rose has only made four competitive appearances at the races since she debuted in the late stages of 2015 but has amassed three wins and a close second for close to $1.5 million in prize money.

Having been forced to return to the paddock with a minor injury after claiming a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on April 2nd, Alan Thomas, stable foreman for trainer David Vandyke told AAP that the All American filly will line up for the Golden Rose Stakes in great condition first-up.

“David summed the trial up as fair. But that is what you always get from her. She did the same before running second in the Golden Slipper and winning the ATC Sires,” Thomas said.

“She just doesn’t fire away from race day.

“Yankee Rose is doing well in Queensland. David doesn’t want to give up three weeks of sunshine for her.

“She will leave for Sydney on the Thursday before the Rose and arrive at Warwick Farm the next day and then straight into the race.”

Trialling fairly leading into her competitive debut, Yankee Rose immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow when taking out the Viridian Lightbridge Plate (1100m); repeating the dose in the Golden Gift (1100m) on November 21st before being returned to the paddock.

Again trialling only fairly leading into her 2016 campaign, the filly out of Condesaar was rated little chance of success in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) first-up but produced an impressive turn of foot in the final straight at Rosehill to finish a close second to Capitalist.

Undoubtedly at her best in her most recent start, Yankee Rose never appeared in doubt; savaging the line to win the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes by close to three lengths.
