2014 Golden Rose Stakes Final Field and Barrier Draw

September 9th, 2014

A less-than capacity field of 15 runners have been confirmed to line up for this weekend’s featured Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, highlighted by several particularly exciting three-year-old racing prospects.

Interestingly the only runner to have already secured Group 1 success confirmed for the 2014 Golden Rose, Almalad will leave from the ideal barrier 5 and will be partnered by in-form hoop Tommy Berry.

Stamping his claims as one to watch with a comfortable victory in debut in December, Almalad returned to racing in peak condition this year; winning the TAB Early Quaddie Plate (1200m) by close to four lengths first-up on May 24th before charging home to win the Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) on June 7th.

While disappointing when beating just a single runner home in the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) first-up on August 30th, Almalad will be more than a chance of victory should the Rosehill Gardens track firm over coming days.

A standout performer over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Bring Me The Maid has been confirmed for the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes and will leave from the ideal barrier 6 with renowned jockey Luke Nolen in the saddle.

Debuting with an impressive win in the Listed Sports 1000 (1000m) on March 1st, the Sebring filly was unlucky to finish third when blocked for a run in the Listed St Albans Stakes (1200m) on March 14th, but responded in the best way possible when charging home to win the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) on March 29th and finishing a credible third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) just one week later.

Comfortably winning the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) first-up on August 23rd, Bring Me The Maid is likely to progress to the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1400m) following the Golden Rose, and is offered a great chance at a maiden Group 1 triumph this weekend.

Godolphin is set to be offered two good chances of success in the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes, confirming classy stable mates Kumaon and Sarajevo in the final field for this weekend’s feature race.

The biggest winner at Tuesday’s barrier draw having been allocated the inside gate, Kumaon returned to racing this time in with an exceptional run for second in the Run To The Rose and arguably offers Godolphin their best chance of success with Kerrin McEvoy confirmed to take the ride.

Winning the Schweppes Golden Gift (1100m) on debut in December, the Lonhro colt has returned to racing in exceptional form this year; finishing second in the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) and third in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) most notably through autumn.

Unlucky to finish fourth in both race starts this time in, Sarajevo has so-far had a seemingly luckless run since debuting to racing in April, but is offered a great chance to reverse his fortunes from the central barrier 8 with jockey James McDonald to take the ride in the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes.
