August 1st, 2013

The Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes is scheduled to run at Rosehill Racecourse on Saturday September 14, 2013.

The race takes place over a distance of 1,400 metres and is worth a whopping $1 million in prize money.

The 2013 Golden Rose will be run under set weight conditions and is open to three-year-old horses only.

Running as part of Golden Rose Day, it shares its day with the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes, Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes and Group 3 Sheraco Stakes.

Three-year-old colt Criterion is likely to make an appearance in the 2013 Golden Rose Stakes.

The Sebring colt has won three of his six race starts and has earned more than $450,000 in prize money during his career.

Criterion has had one trial since returning back to work for trainer David Payne in which he finished a strong fourth.

The young colt was ridden by jockey Glyn Schofield in the trial, who was impressed with his efforts.

“He’s a more mature horse than he was in the autumn,” Schofield said.

“He has grown taller but he’s still quiet, as quiet as a lamb.

“It was a slowly run trial today but he worked to the line well under a strong hold.”

The Listed Black Opal and Group 2 Todman Stakes winner has not raced since he finished a commendable sixth in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes at Randwick on April 27, 2013.
