2011 Golden Rose Race Tips – Rosehill Racecourse

September 9th, 2011

After much thought and deliberation we are tipping Peter Snowden’s Helmet to win the $1 million Golden Rose this Saturday September 10, 2011.

Despite Smart Missile being the current favourite, paying $2 at Luxbet, Helmet will be better suited to the likely slow pace of the 2011 Golden Rose.

Helmet finished third in the Run To The Rose last start behind both Smart Missile and Foxwedge but is sure to have improved from that run.

Helmet, who is a dual Group 1 winner, is currently paying odds of $3.60 to win the 2011 Golden Rose at Luxbet.

We are confident Smart Missile will be there at the finish and are tipping him to place second in tomorrow’s race.

In further horse racing news, Sportingbet Australia CEO, Michael Sullivan, has confirmed that while there is a lot of money coming in for Smart Missile, there has also been plenty of support for the other runners.

“There has been plenty of big money for Smart Missile including a bet of $100,000 but he isn’t dominating betting like many thought he would,” Sullivan said.

“Helmet has been backed from $4.60 to $3.60, while we have taken a bet to win $40,000 on Manawanui and a number of good bets on Foxwedge including one to win $20,000.

“I am sure there will be plenty more big money for Smart Missile after his dominant win in the Run to the Rose but punters certainly don’t think he will have it all his own way.”

Sullivan agreed that the small field could cause problems for Smart Missile’s winning chances because of his backmarker style.

“I think there would have actually been a lot more money for Smart Missile in a bigger field with the guarantee of a truly run race,” Sullivan said.

“I don’t think anyone knows where a number of runners will settle and that is what has seen Smart Missile drift from $1.75 to ($2).”

We are tipping late entry Manawanui to finish in third place in the 2011 Golden Rose.

Manawanui’s owners paid the $50,000 late entry fee to allow their impressive Up & Coming Stakes winner run in tomorrow’s race.

He has won three of his four career starts and appears primed for his 2011 Golden Rose run.

Manawanui is currently paying odds of $7 to win the 1,400 metre race at Luxbet.
