Golden Rose Stakes 2011 Hopefuls Budding At Rosehill

August 3rd, 2011

Rosehill Racecourse will host one of the early lead-up races for this season’s crop of three-year-olds vying for a run in the 2011 Golden Rose with the $100,000 Listed The Rosebud (1200m) taking place this Saturday, August 6.

The 2011 The Rosebud originally drew a final field of 10 gallopers, but with the early scratching of Alcancia there a nine left in contention for the black-type.

Among the sprinters on the path to the 2010-11 season’s opening Group 1 showdown, the $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) on September 10, that are racing in The Rosebud on Saturday are four last-start winners.

The David Payne-trained Queenian is the best-tried of The Rosebud acceptors, the 58kg topweight of the field due to be ridden by ace hoop Nash Rawiller.

The Dubleo colt has raced nine times to date, but only broke their maiden status last start on July 2 winning over 1400 metres at Rosehill by an impressive five and a half lengths.

Payne will also be represented in The Rosebud this weekend by another last-start winner, Magic Albert filly Al’s Magic Miss.

The Corey Brown mount won the Rosebud Fillies Preview (1100m) on July 23 and is out to further stake her Golden Rose claims.

Last season’s leading trainer of juveniles, Peter Snowden, has accepted his promising Exceed And Excel gelding Bello for The Rosebud.

Coming off back-to-back wins in Sydney, Bello is emerging as a genuine Golden Rose contender having won the Rosebud Colts & Geldings Preview (1100m) at Warwick Farm on July 23 by an easy two and a half lengths.

The final three-year-old coming off a victory in The Rosebud field is the Lionel Cohen-trained Aeronautical.

Of all The Rosebud runners, Aeronautical is the shortest-priced in the futures Golden Rose betting odds paying $26 through Luxbet.

The Encosta De Lago gelding scored a tidy one and a quarter length victory at Randwick on July 9 in the Clovelly Handicap (1200m), giving their Rosehill-based trainer Cohen the confidence to embark on a 2011 Golden Rose campaign.

“Not many horses can produce what he did to win,” Cohen said after Aeronautical’s blistering late burst in the Clovelly.

“He put them to bed in a matter of 150 metres.”

The Rosebud offers punters at Luxbet and excellent start-of-the-season sprint to have a punt on and also provides a nice Golden Rose betting guide so you can get in on the generous early Golden Rose odds.

Sepoy remains the $4 Golden Rose favourite, the chances of the Darley-owned Blue Diamond Stakes – Golden Slipper double winner racing in the event boosted when the colt’s name did not appear in the 2011 Caulfield Guineas nominations yesterday.
